Pull every café from BoundDaddy's catalog into your shops list. Safe to tap as often as you like: cafés you already track here are skipped (no duplicates), facts refresh only when they changed, and your ratings, notes, and orders are never overwritten.

What's been going on in the lab. Daddy's been busy, honey.
The "Stop Jumping About" Patch 🏃
- 🏃 The page no longer leaps when it opens. "Now brewing" used to arrive a moment after everything else and shove the search bar and your whole list down by about 110 pixels — right as you were starting to read. Its space is now held from the first frame, so nothing moves.
- ⚡ The list stays quick as your collection grows. The app was doing the full layout work for every bean you own, including the ones well off the bottom of the screen. It now only does that work for what's actually near the screen. With 100 beans, typing in the search box blocked the app for 3.6 seconds before; now it's closer to half a second.
- ✍️ Editing one bean no longer rebuilds all of them. Logging a brew or changing a rating used to throw the entire list away and build it again — measured at 166ms with 100 beans. Now it changes the one card that changed: 10ms.
- 📉 All of it measured on a deliberately slowed-down phone rather than guessed at, which is how I found out my first two attempts were aimed at the wrong thing entirely.
The "One Page Nobody Checked" Patch 🚧
- 🚧 The offline page's "Try again" button was dead. Turning on the stricter security policy blocked the little bit of code that made it work — so the one page you only ever see when something is already broken had a button that did nothing, and wouldn't take you back automatically when your signal returned.
- 🔎 It slipped through because it isn't one of the four main screens, so nothing ever checked it. The check now walks every page in the app rather than a list someone remembered to write.
The "Stop Serving Yesterday" Patch 🥖
- 🥖 The shared files were being cached stale. Each page's own code was set to re-check on every visit, but the files shared by all four pages — the theme, the sign-in, the new lock — were quietly allowed to sit in your browser for hours. So a fresh version could be live while your phone kept running the previous one's shared half.
- 🧩 That's the worst possible set to get wrong: the theme file is what reports which version you're running, so a stale copy makes the version badge itself lie to you. And the lock is a security gate — it shouldn't be possible to run last week's copy of it.
- ✅ Every file the app ships without a version in its name now re-checks on each visit. Fonts and vendored libraries still cache for a year, because their names change when they do.
The "Only You" Patch 🔒
- 🔒 Face ID / Touch ID to open the app, if you want it. Switch it on under Appearance in Settings. It asks when you open CoffeeDaddy and again after five minutes away.
- 🚪 It's a lock on the door, not a safe, and it would be dishonest to imply otherwise. It stops someone picking up your unlocked phone and reading your beans. It doesn't encrypt anything, and what really protects your data is still your sign-in — same as before.
- 🔑 You can never be shut out. If Face ID stops working or you're on a new phone, the lock screen offers to sign you out instead — that clears the lock and gets you back in with your normal sign-in. It's no help to a thief, because it costs them the session.
- 👻 It hides before it shows. The lock is applied before the page draws, so your beans never flash on screen for a frame on the way to being hidden.
- 🙅 Off by default, and the switch doesn't appear at all on a device that can't do it.
The "Actually Ask" Patch 📡
- 📡 Updates should reach your phone now. Three deploys in a row didn't, and this was why: the app only looked for a new version when the tab became visible, or on an hourly timer. An iOS app added to your home screen is suspended rather than closed — the timer freezes while it's in the background, and reopening it restores the old page without the event the app was listening for. So it could go days never once asking whether a new version existed.
- 👀 It now checks on the event a resumed app actually gets, plus when the window is focused, plus the two it already had. Throttled to once a minute, so reopening the app doesn't fire four identical requests.
- 🔔 If a new version finished downloading while the app was asleep, the Update bar is offered again on your way back in, instead of having quietly appeared to nobody.
The "Where It Grew" Patch 🗺️
- 🗺️ An atlas of everywhere you've brewed from. Over on Stats: a world map with your origins lit up, how many countries you're drinking from, and how many brews came out of them. It's drawn into the app rather than loaded from a map service — so there's no third-party request every time you open it, and it still works with no signal.
- 🌍 Beans have an Origin field, with the 42 coffee-growing countries as suggestions. It's free text, though: type a region, a farm, or a blend and nothing stops you.
- 🫘 A blend from two countries lights up both. "Ethiopia / Colombia" is two origins, because it is. "Ethiopia Yirgacheffe" finds Ethiopia without you having to simplify it.
- 🙈 Anything the map can't place is listed, not swallowed. Kona is a real origin and Hawaii isn't a country, so it says so underneath rather than quietly dropping it and leaving the totals looking wrong.
- 🤷 No favourite until you have one. One bean each from six countries isn't a preference, so "Most from" stays blank instead of crowning whichever name sorted first.
The "Which Build Am I Even On" Patch 🔖
- 🔖 The app now tells you which version it's running — at the top of this Diary, and in the sync panel. It reports what's on this device, not what was last deployed, because a phone can keep serving an older release for a while after an update. If the number here doesn't match the newest entry below, the update hasn't landed yet.
- 🛠️ Fixed a crash on half-updated devices. For one visit after a deploy a phone can be running new code against an older page. A missing button in that situation threw an error that silently killed the rest of the page's buttons — on exactly the devices already mid-update.
The "Where Did My Beans Go" Patch 🚨
- 🚨 Fixed: your beans could vanish on a device, permanently. Since v1.23 the app syncs only what changed — it remembers a bookmark and asks the server "anything newer?". If the phone threw away its copy of the beans but kept the bookmark (iOS does exactly this to apps you haven't opened in a while), the app asked for changes, correctly got none, and showed you an empty shelf while reporting itself synced. Every reload did it again, so it never recovered on its own.
- 🩹 No bookmark without the thing it bookmarks. If this device has no copy to update, it now downloads the whole collection instead of asking what changed. Nothing was ever lost from the cloud — the app just couldn't see it.
- 🔁 "Reload everything from the cloud" — a new button in the sync panel (tap the dot by the logo). The way back from any state where this device's copy looks wrong.
- 🏪 Shops had the same flaw and got the same fix.
- 🗺️ Beans have an Origin now — type it, or pick from the 42 coffee-growing countries. Shows on the card. The map that uses it is coming next.
- 🫥 Fixed a sync panel that was quietly painting underneath the page.
The "Why Was It Good" Patch 🎯
- 🎯 Rate a cup on two axes instead of one. Drag the marker: across for bright-and-sour ↔ bitter-and-harsh, up and down for light ↔ strong. Those are the two things that actually go wrong, and they go wrong independently — which is why a three-star note has never once told you what to change.
- 📓 It shows up in the brew log, so you can read back why a shot was good: "Bright & strong", "Bitter & light". Leave it untouched and nothing is recorded — an unplaced marker is not a reading of "balanced".
- ☕ Cup character on the bean itself — sweetness, acidity, body, clarity, aromatics, out of five. That describes the coffee; the marker describes one cup of it. Tap the same score twice to clear a row.
- 🔒 Your scores are protected the same way your grams are: a device on an older build can edit a bean without blanking what it cannot see.
The "Follow Along" Patch 🧭
- 📖 Recipes, with a guide that walks you through them. Tetsu Kasuya's 4:6 Method, James Hoffmann's Ultimate V60, and a plain espresso pull. Tap Brew and pick one — or "Just a timer" for exactly what you had before.
- ⚖️ Every pour is worked out from your dose. Type 20 g and the 4:6 asks for 300 g of water in five pours; type 30 g and it asks for 450 g. The weights it shows are running totals, because that is what you read off the scale.
- ⏱️ One step at a time. "Pour to 120 g", the note on how, the clock for that step, and what is coming next so you can see it arriving. Steps roll on by themselves when the time runs out — your hands are holding a kettle — and Continue skips ahead if you poured faster.
- 📝 Finish and the brew log is already filled in — dose, water, total time, method. Which means the bag countdown gets the dose without you typing it twice.
The "How Much Is Left" Patch ☕
- ⚖️ Your bags now count themselves down. Log a shot with a dose and that many grams come off the bag — no second number to keep up to date by hand. Empty a bag and it marks itself finished and steps aside as your open bag.
- 📊 Remaining shows on every card as a bar and a figure, turning red when you are down to the last 15%. Only for bags you have given a size, because a bar measuring an unknown against zero tells you nothing.
- ⚫ Roast level as five dots. A word in a list of words disappears; two dots filled out of five reads at a glance.
- 🔑 Behind the scenes: an older device can no longer wipe your grams. Every sync sends the whole bean, so a phone running a build from before today would have blanked fields it had never heard of — it now leaves them alone.
- 🧪 And the test suite that covers the database came back, 88 checks of it, including the upgrade running over a copy of a real collection to prove nothing is lost on the way.
The "Get Out Of The Way" Patch 🧹
- 🏪 Shops gets to the coffee twice as fast. It used to open on four stacked rows of controls — search, then sort and near-me and list/map and the ⋯ menu, then the filter header — before a single café. Sort and Near-me moved into the filter panel, where filtering decisions belong, leaving one row about what you are looking at. Chrome before the first shop: 453px down to 288px, from 54% of the screen to 34%.
- 📏 The header is the same height on every page now. Beans and Shops carried two figure chips that Stats and Settings didn't, so every tab change shoved all your content up or down by 67 pixels. The figures moved into the line under the page title — same numbers, live as ever, no jump. Measured spread across the four pages: 0px.
- 🔎 Tapping Filter now hides the whole panel rather than leaving an empty box behind it, and the chevron still turns.
The "Update Button Works Now" Patch 🔄
- 🚨 The Update button has been doing nothing since your very first visit. The app reloads itself once when the service worker first takes over — and that reload set a one-shot "already reloaded" flag that was never cleared. Every real update afterwards installed correctly, then hit that flag and skipped the reload. The new version was live in the background and the screen just stayed on the old one.
- ⏱️ The flag is now a timestamp with a three-second window. It still stops a worker stuck in a reload loop, which is what it was for, but it no longer blocks an update an hour — or a month — later.
- 👆 Tapping Update now says "Updating…", and reloads within four seconds whatever happens, so the button can never silently do nothing again. It is also a proper 44px target instead of 36px.
- 🎨 The light wordmark finally changes. It kept the old filename, so every phone served its cached copy; the dark one only appeared because its filename was new. Both are on fresh filenames now, so the swap lands on your next visit without you touching anything.
The "Actually Arrives" Patch 📦
- 🐛 Fixed: new artwork only half-arriving. v1.20's wordmark showed up in dark mode but not light. Nothing was wrong with the build — your phone was keeping every image forever, so the brand-new dark file came down from the server while the light one, which replaced a file of the same name, was served from the old copy on your phone.
- ♻️ Images now refresh themselves in the background, the way the stylesheets already did. A replaced picture repairs itself on your next visit instead of never. (Fonts still never re-check — those genuinely can't change.)
- 📜 Daddy's Diary folds up. Sixteen releases laid out in full made this page nearly 9000px tall. Each one is a tap to open now, newest already open — the page is 64% shorter.
The "New Hat" Patch 🎩
- ✨ New wordmark. The single-line CoffeeDaddy lockup, with a proper dark-mode artwork instead of the old trick of just turning the brightness up on the light one. The cup icon is untouched.
- 📐 The new mark is three times wider than the stacked one it replaces, so the header row was retuned to make space — the two figures now sit on their own line underneath rather than being squeezed.
- 🔗 Settings footer now points at OuiDaddy. "More apps from OuiDaddy" replaces the old credit line, and the whole thing is one tap target rather than just the logo.
The "Turn The Lights On" Patch 💡
- 🎨 Dark mode stopped being brown-on-brown. Page, cards and borders were four browns inside a narrow band of lightness, so nothing stood out from anything. Same colours, pushed properly apart — and contrast went up, not down: muted text on a card now reads 8.6:1 where it read 5.9:1.
- 🔤 Every screen opens on its subject, not its furniture. Page titles went from 26px to 38px in the display face's heaviest weight, and Stats and Shops finally have titles at all.
- ☕ Beans have bags again. Each one gets its own tile — a stable colour drawn from the bean's own name, plus its initials — so a list is something you scan rather than read.
- 🗑️ No more wall of dashes. A bean with nothing filled in used to draw three boxes reading "—", "—", "—". Only the facts that exist get drawn now.
- 🔘 The + moved off your cards and into the menu bar. It used to float over whatever scrolled underneath it. The nav icons stacked above their labels to make room, which is what a proper tab bar does anyway.
- 🔢 Stats figures grew from 27px to 34px, so a tile is a number with a caption rather than a caption with a number.
The "Stop Blinking At Me" Patch 👁️
- ✨ Changing section no longer flickers. Caught on video, then caught frame by frame: tapping Stats drew the whole page, let you read it for a fifth of a second, then blanked it out and drew the exact same thing again. Twice per tab change, every tab change.
- 🔁 The cause was the page being polite twice. It painted from your phone's copy, then the server answered with the identical figures and it rebuilt everything from scratch to show you — nothing. It now checks whether anything actually changed before touching the screen.
- 🎬 Entrance animations only play on an entrance. Cards fading up is lovely the first time you open the app. It is not lovely when they do it again two hundred milliseconds later because a sync came back. Numbers already on your phone now simply appear.
- 💀 Stats stopped flashing its loading skeleton at you when it already had every figure sitting in your pocket.
- 🌓 The status bar no longer flashes cream before catching up with dark mode.
- ⚡ Sections open roughly twice as fast. Every tab change was fetching the page from the server — a page your phone had already saved. It now opens the saved copy instantly and checks for a newer one in the background, the same way every other file already worked. First pixel on screen: about 400ms down to about 170ms.
- 🎞️ The menu bar stopped dissolving into itself. The bottom nav is the same bar in the same place on all four sections, but the transition was cross-fading it with an identical copy of itself for 300ms. That is what made the whole screen look like it blinked. It now switches instantly, like a proper tab bar, and only the content fades — in 200ms rather than 300.
- 📉 The upshot, measured: Beans → Stats went from 67 rendered frames down to 18, with no blank frame left anywhere. Less work for your battery, too.
The "Mind The Gap" Patch 📐
- 📊 Stats appears instantly. It was still holding its breath for the server before drawing a single figure — even though every number on that page can be worked out from what's already on your phone. It now paints from your own copy immediately and quietly updates when the cloud replies. Blank page to full page: fourteen seconds to under one.
- ➕ The + button stopped sitting on the menu. Making the nav pill a proper 44 px tap target grew it by 8 px, and the button's position was hardcoded to the old height — so on any iPhone with a home indicator it landed right on top. Daddy measured it: 8 px of overlap at the usual inset, 22 px on the tall ones.
- 📏 The button, the toast and the page's bottom margin now all take their measurements from the nav itself instead of three separate guesses. Measure once, cut once.
The "Answer Me" Patch ⏳
- ⏳ The app no longer waits forever for a silent server. Requests that get refused were always handled gracefully — fall back to this device, flip the pill to Offline, carry on. Requests that got no answer at all were not: the pill sat on "Loading…" and Stats stayed blank indefinitely, because nothing ever came back to react to.
- ⏱️ Every request to the kitchen now has twelve seconds to respond. After that we stop waiting and serve what's already on the device, exactly as if we were offline. No answer is just a slow no.
- 🗺️ Shops and Stats therefore keep working from your own copy even when a corner of the server is having a moment.
- ☕ Note this is a resilience fix, not a cure — if the shops endpoint itself is unwell, cloud sync for shops stays down until that's mended. You just won't be left staring at a spinner while it is.
The No-Queue Update 🥂
- ⚡ It opens instantly now. Measured on 4G: 1200 ms down to 168 ms. On good wifi, 552 ms to 72 ms. On a weak signal, 2.7 seconds to under one. Daddy is no longer making you wait in the vestibule.
- 🚪 The hold-up was the door, not the kitchen. The app itself was always ready in about 50 ms. It was being kept hidden behind a blank screen until the sign-in service finished checking your name — which on a bad signal took over two seconds. You were staring at nothing while your beans sat there fully plated.
- 🫘 Your beans are painted from this device first. They're already stored here; there was never a reason to ask the cloud before showing them to you. The cloud copy still arrives moments later and quietly reconciles.
- 🔐 Nothing about who gets in has loosened. Once you've been let in once, the app trusts this browser enough to draw itself while the check runs behind the scenes. If you've signed out or lost access, the door swings shut the instant it finds out. Every request to the server still shows a signed token, and the server still refuses anything that doesn't.
- 👋 First-timers still meet the sign-in screen exactly as before. You can't skip the queue you've never been through.
The "Daddy Over-Extracted" Correction 🫠
- 🧊 The phone stopped seizing up. v1.8 shipped a clever trick that skipped rendering the cards you couldn't see yet. Very efficient on paper. On iPhone it made the page misjudge its own height, stranded the floating nav halfway up the screen, and left everything unresponsive. Ripped out. Sometimes the clever grind is just the wrong grind.
- 🎯 The sync dot is back on its mark. Making the pill a proper 44 px tap target widened it without telling the dot to re-centre, so it drifted 7 px to the left and sat there looking guilty. Centred.
- 🛟 Added a stop on the update-reload so it can never loop, which is the other way an app convinces you it has frozen.
- 🙇 Daddy tested this one on his knees. Apologies to anyone who tried to log a shot this morning.
The Dialed-In Update ⚖️
- 🪶 Daddy lost 230 KB and he is GLOWING. The logo and app icons were shipping at cathedral resolution to render at the size of a thumbnail. Recut, requantised, pixel-for-pixel identical, 78% lighter. That's not a diet, that's a dial-in.
- 🕳️ Retired one truly cursed file. The favicon was a 77 KB PNG in an SVG trench coat. We saw through it. It's gone. Vector cosplay is over.
- 🧊 New icon, properly masked. Android was cropping Daddy's jaw to fit its little circle. He now ships a maskable cut with a respectable safe zone, so the face survives every phone's idea of a nice shape.
- 📲 Long-press the app icon. Add a bean, jump to Shops, check your Stats — three shortcuts, no menu diving. The good bars keep the syrups within arm's reach.
- 🔔 He'll tell you when there's a fresh batch. New build lands, a discreet little bar appears, you tap Update when YOU'RE ready. No more silently drinking last week's grind because nobody mentioned it.
- 🌫️ A proper offline face. Lose signal in some basement café with two bars of nothing and you get a warm little card instead of the browser's dinosaur. Your beans are still on the device. Nothing is lost, nothing is leaking.
- ⚡ Navigations pre-heat now. The service worker warms the request while it's still waking up, and static files serve instantly from cache while quietly refreshing behind your back. Pre-infusion, essentially. Same principle, fewer channels.
- 🤝 The sign-in handshake starts early. We open the connection to the door staff while the page is still getting dressed. Shaves a third of a second off every cold open. Punctuality is a love language.
- ♿ The sync pill grew up. It was a div pretending to be a button — cute, but keyboards and screen readers weren't invited. It's a real button now, tabbable, announced, Escape closes it. Everyone gets a seat at the bar.
- 👆 Every tap target is at least 44 px on a phone. Because tapping the same star four times isn't a rating, it's a hostage situation.
- 🕯️ "Reduce motion" is honoured properly now. If your system asks the room to stop swirling, Daddy stops swirling. Consent, again. It comes up a lot around here.
- 🧹 Four copies of the same offline setup became one shared file, because maintaining the same paragraph in four places is how houses burn down.
The Velvet Rope Update 🚪
- 🚪 New door policy. CoffeeDaddy has a proper sign-in now, and Daddy approves every single guest himself. It isn't gatekeeping. It's a tasting menu, and the room is small.
- 📋 Want in? Join the waitlist, look pretty, be patient. You'll get an email the moment you've been chosen. Anticipation is part of the flavour.
- 👑 Admins carry one key for the whole house of Daddy apps. Rank has its privileges, and its keyring.
- 🔐 Every request shows ID at the door now — cryptographically signed, checked properly. The bouncer reads signatures, not vibes. Vibes got us into trouble.
- 📴 Offline still works, obviously. The velvet rope is at the club, not in your pocket.
The "Meet My Other Daddy" Update 🤝
- 🤝 BoundDaddy sync. The Daddies are talking at last. One button in Settings and every café from BoundDaddy's little black book arrives in your shops — names, addresses, pins, links, the full dossier. A blended family, finally in the same room.
- 🛡️ Your ratings, your notes, your order stay YOURS. Sync refreshes the facts and never once touches the feelings. Boundaries, darling. Even between Daddies.
- 👯 No duplicates. Already keeping tabs on that café yourself? Sync clocks it, respects it, walks on by. Press the button forty times if it soothes you — nobody is cloning your shops.
- 🪦 Deleted one he sent over? It stays deleted. We do not do exes wandering back in at 2am.
The "Faster, Daddy" Update ⚡
- ⚡ Everything pours faster. The database was re-checking its own furniture before every single request, like a man patting his pockets at the door. We gave it some self-confidence and the shot times fell right off.
- 🖋️ The fancy fonts no longer hold the entire page hostage while they get ready. Beauty takes time. It does not take YOUR time.
- 📜 Scrolling is silk. We let go of the background that insisted on repainting itself every single frame — dramatic AND expensive, in this economy, for a gradient nobody asked to move.
- ⌨️ Search stopped flinching at every keystroke. It waits for you to finish the thought, the way a good listener does.
- ⏱️ The brew timer went to therapy and now only updates what actually changed. Enormous personal growth for a piece of a clock.
- 🔒 Sync learned nuance. Two devices editing at once used to end like a reunion special — somebody's contribution quietly erased. Now every record keeps its own newest version. Everyone's truth is valid, and everyone's truth is saved.
- 🗺️ Shop maps load when YOU tap them, not whenever they feel moved to. Consent matters. Yes, even for iframes.
- 🔤 The fonts moved in with us instead of commuting in from Google every visit. Domesticated, faster, and entirely ours.
The "Where Is He?" Update 📍
- 📍 Near Me. Cafés within reach of your gorgeous self, distance on every card, and a map with your pin in the middle of it. Main character framing, as it should be.
- 🗺️ Sort by nearest first, because walking eleven blocks to a place that over-extracts is not a pilgrimage, it's a cry for help.
- 🌍 Shops too shy to supply coordinates get geocoded automatically. Daddy finds them regardless. Daddy is thorough.
The Glow Up 💅
- 💅 Liquid glass floating nav. That frosted pill along the bottom? That is taste, darling, and it took several attempts.
- 🌙 Dark mode deepened into proper espresso. The honey-gold active tab against it — that's the crema. Chef's kiss.
- 🧴 The header slimmed right down. Less is more. We do not need to announce ourselves at THAT volume.
- ✨ An About section, at last. Credit where it's due — hello, it's me, and I've been thinking about grind size again.
The "I Have Standards" Update ⭐
- ⭐ Bean detail view, with a half-star histogram. Rounding a 4.5 down to a 4 is for cowards and people who drink it black to seem serious.
- 📊 The Stats page got its glow up — brew-time curves, origin breakdowns, the entire fantasy laid out in charts.
- 🫘 Bean of the Moment sits at the very top now. Your current obsession deserves top billing until the next one arrives.
- 🧹 The add-bean form was tidied within an inch of its life. Fewer fields shouting, more room to actually think about the roast.
The Bougie Barista Era 🏪
- 🏪 The Shops toolbar got a collapsible filter drawer. Organised AND cute, which is the whole brand really.
- 🌙 Dark map tiles, finally. No more blinding yourself at midnight hunting a late flat white.
- ⏱️ A brew time of "0" no longer displays as a value. Zero seconds of contact is not an extraction, babe, that's a glass of water with ambitions.
- 📱 A mobile overflow menu, because the tools were crowding each other and everybody deserves their own room.
Daddy's First Drop 👨🍳
- ☕ Track your beans, rate your brews, keep notes on grind and dose and every origin you fall for. CoffeeDaddy is born, and he already has opinions.
- 🗺️ A shops map, courtesy of Leaflet. Keeping tabs on cafés has never looked this refined.

A few things worth knowing about how the app works.
- Your beans, shops, and reviews sync across every device you sign in on via a private Cloudflare D1 database.
- Access to the site is gated by Cloudflare Access — only allowed emails can sign in.
- The app works offline: the last data you saw is cached, and new edits sync the moment you come back online.
- Tip: mark one bean as the "Bean of the moment" from the edit form to pin it to the top of your beans page.
